  1. Lighting design.

The Principal, Rohini Mani entered the fascinating world of lighting by virtue of having previously worked with lighting design engineers on the design of the Philips Show Shops at Chennai and Mumbai, in the initial stage of her independent career. Later on She worked on the  “Lighting Application Centre’s” for Philips at Calcutta and Chennai, where it was a challenging task to provide interiors to meet multiple lighting requirements in one single location. This experience  resulted in a complete understanding of lighting and its  application at the conceptual stages of design itself and this has been fully utilised in all further projects done by RMA.

This was further strengthened by her association with the field of  Lighting by becoming
a member of the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers., where she  worked as Publication Committee Member and Technical Programme Committee Member, Mumbai State Center and at present Hon. Secretary of Mumbai State Center . She presented a paper termed “Light A Form Given for Architecture” at the 3rd SAARC Lighting Conference held at Kathmandu, Nepal in 1996 and in 2002 another paper termed “ LIGHT – SEEING IS BELIEVING ” @ The Lux – Pacifica 2002 International Lighting Conference held at Delhi.

Recently she attended The Light Fair 2000 in May, in USA,  followed by a 3 day Training Course cum Product Orientation at Zumtobel, a leading manufacturer of lighting fittings  in Germany . Following this she attended a Training Programme at the Lighting Research Centre at Troy, U.S.A. in June 2000.

  1. Infotech Offices.

At RGMA we have always kept  abreast of new technological developments in this area and the offices we have designed  for multinationals are fully equipped with computer networking systems using Cat 6, Hubs, Servers, Voltage stabilisers, UPS, Internet connections as well as specialised antiglare Cat 2 Lighting, Including IBMS (Intelligent Building Management systems) .
We at RGMA have many FIRST’s to our credit. We are one of the pioneers of open office system and space planning,. We have designed and executed 70,000/- sqft of open office for M/s. Philips India Ltd. At Nesbit Road, Mumbai . In 1985  we have also designed and executed 30,000 Sqft. Of open office with Modular furniture specially developed by godrej for the National Centre for Software Technology (NCST), earlier a part of TIFR, in which specialised rooms were designed for the WANG Main Frame Computers. Additionally each workstation was computerised with its own PC and peripherals.

We were involved as far back in 1989 in designing the Computer  factory for PSI Data Systems at Bangalore with manufacturing facilities for mainframe computers. The foreign collaborator  was M/s. Bull of France and the factory was designed to meet international standards. At that time contemporary facilities such as  Anti Static flooring, dark lighting systems (anti-glare) as well as clean air equipment required for the assembly were incorporated in the building. In the upper level of the factory 40,000 sqft of Modular open office was designed with a view of the processing floor below.

We have also executed Cyber Café’s for Satyam Computers called I Zone with many of the above facilities including ISDN lines.

  1. Creating Brand Images

At RMA we have been involved with the creation of brand images in the service industry. RMA has developed entire prototypes and detailed design manuals for Beauty Salons for Lakme Lever Ltd. as well as prototype & detailed design for Aviance (Direct Marketing Outlet) and for  Cyber Cafes for Satyam Infoway Ltd. This work involved constant interaction with clients’ and their advertising agencies and other allied specialists, to develop the brief for the design.

The comprehensive manual of interior design prepared by RMA is detailed right down to each fitting and fixture, to enable franchisees across the country to standardise the interiors and project the brand image most effectively. Using   brand colours alongwith effective lighting, within tight budget constraints, RMA has been able to design cost effective yet international quality interiors within a short time frame.

From negotiating with manufacturers and developing assembly line furniture modules, RMA has succeeded in translating the clients’ brief into a spatial format, which communicates the brand image very effectively.
